Job Description - Payroll Assistant

About the Role

We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Payroll Assistant. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with 1–2 years of experience in payroll administration who is looking to grow their career in a supportive and dynamic environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Ensure all line managers authorise overtime and payroll exceptions in line with cut-off timings.
  • Accurately enter, check, and process payroll data, coaching managers where necessary.
  • Submit correct data to HMRC on time and assist with audits as required.
  • Send pension data promptly and ensure compliance with auto-enrolment obligations.
  • Maintain alignment and accuracy across all HR and payroll databases and processes.
  • Process tax code changes, P60s, P45s, and Attachment of Earnings (AOEs) on time.
  • Provide comprehensive payroll and HR reports to the Head of HR when required.
  • Manage all leaver and new starter processes efficiently.
  • Process contract variations in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Ensure companywide annual leave is managed in line with policy.
  • File all general employee information accurately and securely.
  • Maintain and reconcile pension records for all staff.
  • Assist in maintaining up-to-date HR documentation.
  • Support right-to-work checks and compliance procedures.
What We’re Looking For
  • 1–2 years’ experience in HR or payroll administration.
  • Excellent IT skills, including proficiency in payroll and HR systems.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently.
  • Proven experience in submitting payrolls on time.
  • A collaborative team player with a positive attitude.
