Job Description - Payroll Officer

Are you an experienced Payroller ready to take the next step in your career?

A multi-Academy Trust is seeking a dedicated Payroll Officer to join their central payroll team. This is a fantastic opportunity to be part of a well-established but still growing multi-academy trust whose schools are all Ofsted-rated 'Good’ or 'Outstanding’.

About the Role
Based in Wolverhampton, the Payroll Officer will play a key role in supporting the Payroll Manager with the end-to-end processing of the Trust’s monthly payroll for over 1,200 employees. You’ll be involved in general payroll and pension administration, reporting duties to various government bodies and pension schemes, and covering for the Payroll Manager during periods of absence.

What We’re Looking For
We’re seeking someone with a solid understanding of payroll legislation and experience in payroll administration. You'll need to be confident using Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, and be familiar with PAYE, National Insurance, statutory payments, pension auto-enrolment, and more.

Essential Skills & Experience:

  • Sound knowledge of payroll legislation (e.g. PAYE, SMP, SSP, SPP, SAP)
  • Experience in payroll administration
  • Strong IT skills, especially in Microsoft Office

Desirable (but not essential):

  • Experience with education-specific payroll processing
  • Familiarity with Teachers' and Local Government Pension Schemes
  • Knowledge of Civica (Carval) payroll systems
  • Professional payroll qualifications
