Payroll Specialist

Are you an experienced payroll professional who enjoys managing client relationships and taking ownership of your own workload?

We are looking for a Payroll Specialist to join a busy team in Torquay, managing a varied portfolio of client payrolls and ensuring employees are paid accurately and on time.

This role would suit someone with hands-on payroll experience who is confident managing multiple accounts, resolving queries and working to tight deadlines.

Key responsibilities

Manage a portfolio of approximately 30–50 client payrolls per month.

Process payroll from start to finish, including data imports, checking inputs and completing calculations.

Calculate statutory payments and entitlements, including maternity, sickness and holiday pay.

Liaise directly with clients to resolve queries and obtain payroll information.

Identify and investigate discrepancies, ensuring accuracy throughout the payroll process.

*

Manage competing deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

*

Use Excel to manipulate spreadsheets, import data and support payroll processing.

About you

*

Previous hands-on payroll experience, ideally within a payroll bureau or similar client-facing environment.

Experience managing your own payroll portfolio and communicating directly with clients.

*

Strong attention to detail and a methodical approach to your work.

*

Excellent organisation and the ability to prioritise multiple deadlines.

*

Good Excel skills, including spreadsheet manipulation and data imports.

*

Paycircle experience would be relevant, with Xero knowledge also beneficial.

Experience with hospitality payrolls would be particularly useful, including hourly-paid employees and the handling of tips.

Working arrangements

The role is office-based five days per week during probation. Following successful completion of probation, hybrid working is available.
