Job Description - People Operations Lead, London

Join us at Carnall Farrar (CF) and contribute to our mission of being an employer of choice in the healthcare sector. Your role as People Operations Lead will be pivotal in ensuring we have the talented and motivated team needed to support and drive excellence in healthcare consulting and data services.

Carnall Farrar (CF) is a growing management consultancy which works across all aspects of the healthcare sector from supporting the NHS to serving major life science companies. We are passionate about, and experts in, healthcare.  Founded in 2013 we  have grown over the past 11 years to a core staff of around 70 across consulting, data science and corporate functions. We have a strong reputation in the healthcare sector and are highly regarded both internally and externally for the level of support and development we give our people. As a professional services business, CF has three primary assets – its people, its knowledge and its data and associated products. The CF team are consequently central to the success of the business.

Role summary

Reporting to the Chief People Officer, you will champion all things People Operations across the company and will directly contribute to our People Strategy. Partnering with our Chief People Officer, Head of FP&A and Operations Director to deliver an excellent employee experience across employee onboarding, offboarding, policies, procedures, payroll, compensation, benefits and tooling. As the very first People Operations Lead, you will design and implement the building blocks that enable us to continue our growth journey. You are an early member of the new People team, so your scope and ability to make a difference will be huge.

We have developed our People Strategy, which is designed to support the delivery of CF’s company strategy, through ensuring we are an employer of choice within the sector and an ‘irresistible organisation’ for our employees.  We have made an extensive commitment to staff development through an in-house development programme, supported with external inputs. This delivers 10 days of training per year to all staff, with additional time for specific groups (e.g. graduate analysts on induction). Training draws on the extensive skills and experience of the leadership team to deliver the programme, which has been accredited as a route for recipients to become Chartered Management Consultants.

Our growth ambitions are significant – we have diversified over the past seven years, and in the future this is likely to see us establish additional UK bases, as well as considering how we have a more international face. These developments will all have significant implications for how we work and the skills we need.

As a member of the People team of CF, clear communication and strong interpersonal skills are essential for this role. Acting with kindness even in the most difficult situations and acting with the utmost discretion are core requirements. These attributes form part of the six CF values and associated behaviours that apply to all staff and create a point of commonality. Upholding these values and behaviours is critical to our being the diverse and inclusive team that makes CF a great place to work.

Responsibilities and duties

  • You will have autonomy over building out value-adding People products and experiences to delight our team and enable them to be their best
  • You will ensure we provide wonderful employee lifecycle experiences delivered with care and to a high standard
  • You will closely follow UK employment laws and regulation updates and developments, ensuring compliance across all HR practices
  • You will use a design and product mindset to create user-friendly, simple, and efficient People processes that empower (and not encumber) employees and improve performance, compensation, onboarding, leadership development, and other employee experience touch points
  • You will manage our internal resourcing processes to ensure our team are appropriately assigned to projects that challenge them, excite them and are aligned to client needs
  • You will own our People, Learning & Talent tooling to enable our employees to “do it in 3 clicks”
  • You will manage employee compensation and benefits programs, ensuring that they are competitive and align with company goals
  • You will take responsibility for ensuring our compensation and benefits benchmarking processes are thought leading, competitive and delivered fairly
  • You will drive insight from our people data rather than “just produce reports” and make this accessible, meaningful and easy to engage with
  • You will view your work through a DEI lens, making your work is inclusive and accessible for a team of brilliant people from all walks of life

Requirements

We're not necessarily looking for someone CIPD qualified or with a certain level of education, but we are looking for a collaborative, innovative and friendly people professional who enjoys rolling up their sleeves and jumping into the thick of the action, someone who is tech savvy, results oriented and loves delivering work to the highest standards. You will likely have a combination of the following skills and attributes:
