PFR Innovation and Testing Technician

£29,588.00 - £32,080.00

Property-level flood resilience (PFR) measures are a key component in mitigating flood risks for homes and businesses. Products and devices such as flood barriers and flood resistant doors are designed to provide individual properties with improved resilience to flood water. However, limited research has been directed towards innovation in this area and few testing facilities exist. In response, the Energy and Environment Institute at the University of Hull has established a unique innovation and testing environment for PFR products with an unfolding programme of innovation and testing work.

We are seeking a highly competent and committed technician to support the development and implementation of bespoke experimental apparatus, operate specialist equipment (under supervision), maintain documentation, prepare technical reports and outputs, support external visits and clients and liaise with colleagues on technical matters. You will work closely with, and provide support to, our existing technical staff to deliver research, innovation and testing to exacting standards within a regulated testing environment.

With a desire to make a real difference in an under-researched area of vital importance you will be qualified to at least Higher National Certificate level (a relevant degree-level qualification would be an advantage).

This exciting new 12 month post will be based in the University of Hull’s vibrant Energy and Environment Institute (EEI) which facilitates collaboration across disciplines and between stakeholders. https://www.hull.ac.uk/research/institutes/energy-and-environment-institute .

Based at the EEI, the postholder will undertake work at PFRlab testing and development facility located within The Deep visitor attraction.  Reporting to Dr Giles Davidson, the postholder will work closely with, and provide support to, existing PFRlab technical staff to deliver research, innovation and testing to exacting standards and within a regulated testing environment.

Duties will include supporting the development and implementation of bespoke experimental apparatus, operation (under supervision) of specialist equipment, maintaining documentation, preparing technical reports and outputs, supporting external visits and clients and liaising with colleagues on technical matters.
