Media Operations is recruiting a picture editor to work with the News on iPlayer team in Glasgow. This role sits within the News on iPlayer VOD team where we create impactful mid and longform content. We are looking for a Picture Editor who is creative, passionate about storytelling and understand the changing landscape of what audiences want on streaming platforms in the on demand space.
As picture editor you’ll play a key role bringing our content to life - working between a daily news operation and an agile, iterative programme team. You will be working with teams across the BBC and on simultaneous projects. Some evening and weekend work may be needed to ensure we can consistently deliver our output.
The News on iPlayer VOD team has a huge impact in bringing non-news audiences to BBC streaming platforms. Formats like The Big Cases, Scams & Scandals, Access All Areas and On the Front Line are just some of the content you will find yourself working on. Add in quick turnaround programmes and collaborations with our Streaming Live colleagues on big breaking news stories – you'll always be busy.
You’ll be joining a team who cares about where our audiences are at as we dive into the data consistently to inform the output we commission and create. Finally, we are a team that collaborates across BBC Network news and Nation and Region news teams.
• To work with producers, reporters and collaborators to create streaming first content – which will include editing with specifically gathered material as well as library material to create mid and long form edits.
• You’ll be expected to select pictures and sound and help with the selection of sync and spot appropriate up-sounds.
• Re-edit as required, log recorded shots and complete editing process
• Plan editing sessions and employ appropriate editing techniques.
• Record incoming pictures and sound from all sources, including rushes, outside broadcasts (OBs), agency feeds, satellite, regions and studios.
• Provide relevant material necessary for graphic effect (GFX) creation and help develop the most efficient work flow for GFX sequences to be included in packages.
• Work closely with the production to appreciate Producer’s intentions and provide edited material and complete all necessary paperwork and file delivery tasks in line with protocol for streaming.
