Take Piping Systems From Installation Through to Commissioning

Hinkley Point C is one of the UK's largest and most complex engineering and construction projects, and as installation activity continues to accelerate across site, we are looking for an experienced Piping Completion Lead to support the delivery of the Mechanical, Electrical and HVAC (MEH) programme.

This is a senior, site-focused engineering position responsible for leading the engineering activities required to take major piping systems from installation completion through pressure testing, flushing, drying and preservation, ultimately achieving successful handover into Commissioning.

With approximately 1,500 pressure-test loops per unit, this is a significant completions programme requiring strong technical knowledge, leadership and coordination across construction, engineering, quality and commissioning.

We are particularly interested in hearing from experienced piping and mechanical professionals from highly regulated process industries including:

Previous nuclear experience is advantageous, but candidates with strong transferable piping completions and pressure-testing experience from other major projects are encouraged to apply.

The Role

Reporting to the Piping Construction Engineering Manager, you will lead the engineering associated with piping completion activities across the project.
Working closely with installation contractors, construction teams, engineering, project management and commissioning, you will establish and drive the strategy for the preparation and execution of pressure testing and subsequent completion activities.
This is very much a front-line project delivery role. You will need to be comfortable operating in a fast-paced construction environment, resolving technical issues quickly and ensuring engineering does not become a constraint to site progress.
Key Responsibilities
You will:
Lead the engineering strategy for the preparation and execution of on-site piping pressure testing.
Coordinate the delivery of approximately 1,500 pressure-test loops per unit.
Drive contractors to ensure pressure testing is prepared and executed safely and in accordance with required quality and nuclear safety standards.
Oversee the preparation and review of pressure-test documentation, loop definitions, procedures and associated completion records.
Coordinate post-test activities including flushing, drying, preservation and system handover.
Manage interfaces between installation contractors, construction teams, Project Managers, Engineering, Building Leads, Commissioning and pressure-compliance stakeholders.
Support the resolution of technical issues associated with temporary components, test boundaries, demineralised water, effluent treatment and exemptions.
Ensure appropriate surveillance and technical review of pressure-test documentation and procedures.
Develop completion and handover strategies including Lifetime Quality Records, open points and Commissioning acceptance requirements.
Ensure commissioning and post-construction requirements are incorporated into the construction sequence.
Coordinate engineering activities required to maintain construction progress and remove technical blockers.
Support the development of KPIs to monitor construction and completion progress.
Identify opportunities to improve engineering, completion and site processes.
Lead, coordinate and develop engineers supporting the piping completion scope.

About You

We are looking for someone who understands what it takes to move complex piping systems through mechanical completion, testing and handover on a major engineering or construction project.

You will ideally have significant experience involving:

Piping installation * Mechanical completion * Hydrostatic / pressure testing * Test packs * Test boundaries * Flushing * Drying * Preservation * Quality documentation * System handover * Commissioning interfaces

You should be able to demonstrate:

Proven experience in a piping, mechanical completion, pressure-testing or commissioning-related position.
Strong practical understanding of piping installation and completion activities.
Experience delivering engineering within a major construction or process environment.
Ability to coordinate multiple technical and construction interfaces.
Experience resolving technical issues in a schedule-driven site environment.
Strong leadership skills and the ability to coordinate engineers and multidisciplinary stakeholders.
Ability to influence contractors, engineering teams, construction management and commissioning.
A rigorous approach to engineering, safety, quality and documentation.
Commercial and contractual awareness.
Confidence working autonomously and making engineering decisions within delegated authority.

Desirable Experience

It would be advantageous if you also have:

A degree or equivalent qualification in Mechanical Engineering or another relevant engineering discipline.
Chartered Engineer status or progress towards professional registration.
Nuclear or other highly regulated industry experience.
Previous piping installation and/or commissioning experience.
Knowledge of PWR systems or nuclear power generation.
Knowledge of CDM Regulations.
Experience working with major EPC, installation or mechanical contractors.
French language capability.

Transferable Industry Experience Welcomed

You do not necessarily need to have spent your career in nuclear.

Some of the strongest transferable candidates may come from environments where large process piping systems must be installed, inspected, tested, documented and handed over safely, including:

Petrochemical plants | Refineries | Pharmaceutical facilities | Chemical plants | Power stations | Water treatment facilities | Major process plants | Oil & Gas projects

If you have led piping completion, hydrotesting or commissioning-readiness activities on a major project, your experience could translate extremely well into this position.
