Job Description - Planning & Results Adviser

Salary: £ 57,000

Closing date:  Tuesday 10 March 2026

Contract type: Permanent

Interview dates: 1st stage (25, 26 and 27th of March) online/Remote

The Wellcome Trust is a global charitable foundation. We improve health for everyone by funding science, leading policy and advocacy campaigns, and building partnerships.

We plan to spend £16bn over the next ten years, funding new discoveries in life, health, and wellbeing, and taking on three global health challenges: mental health, infectious disease and climate and health.

These challenges need the bold science we support, but they won’t be solved by science alone.

We are looking for a Planning and Results Adviser to join our team.  You’ll be part of a new team, focussed on enabling Wellcome to maximise its impact by effectively plan for and execute its mission.

Where in Wellcome will I be working?

The role reports to the Planning and Results Lead and will be a key member of the Organisational Planning team as part of the wider Strategy Department.

Within the Strategy Department, the Organisational Planning team enables Wellcome to deliver its mission by aligning priorities, resources and delivery, specifically leading identification of organisational objectives, overseeing strategic resource allocation, embedding systematic performance and continuous learning, and strengthening programme and portfolio management.

You will be a critical member of the Planning and Results sub-team leading Wellcome's integrated organisational planning cycles, with a focus on aligning objectives, plan, budget and key results, as well as embedding systematic performance reporting and learning.

What will I be doing?

You’ll provide analytical insight and practical support across our multi‑year, annual and quarterly planning cycles, helping to bring clarity to organisational priorities and strengthen performance through effective use of OKRs. By shaping evidence and translating data into meaningful insights, you’ll play a key role in enabling Wellcome to optimise resources and deliver on its mission.

As a Planning & Results Adviser, you will:

  • Analyse forecast data to support quarterly reviews of mission‑related activity.

  • Support organisation‑wide OKR processes, including setting, monitoring and measuring progress.

  • Develop and maintain planning and reporting tools to strengthen visibility, accountability and cross‑team coherence.

  • Turn performance data into clear insights that inform multi‑year and quarterly planning and evidence‑based decisions.

  • Help foster an inclusive, collaborative team culture aligned with organisational values.

  • Work in line with organisational governance and policies, taking on additional reasonable tasks as needed.

Is this job for me?

If you enjoy working with data, solving problems, and using analytical insight to support organisational planning, this role could be a great fit for you. You’ll thrive here if you’re adaptable, confident using tools like Excel, comfortable managing shifting priorities at pace, and able to build strong working relationships across varied teams. If you’re detail‑focused and motivated by contributing to Wellcome’s mission, you’re likely to feel right at home in this role.

To apply for this role please submit an updated CV and answer 2 application questions to demonstrate that you meet the minimum requirements for the role.

Minimum Criteria:

  • Demonstrated ability to analyse data, identify trends, and produce business performance insights to support decision‑making.

  • Strong Excel skills (advanced formulas, data manipulation, and basic modelling).

  • Ability to create and maintain planning, reporting, and/or analytical tools - potentially including dashboards and visualisations.

Applications Questions:

  • Using examples please provide evidence to demonstrate that you meet the minimum criteria for this role as outlined in the job description? (Up to 500 words)

  • Using short summaries please provide specific details of up to two different initiatives or projects you have been directly involved in that are relevant to this role. For each initiative or project please use up to 250 words to describe your role (e.g. team leader, team member), the purpose of the activity (i.e. its aims), and the major contributions you personally made.
