£39,000 monthly
Planning Consultant
Cambridge | £30,000–£39,000
A national property consultancy is recruiting a Planning Consultant for its Cambridge office. Planning sits alongside a wider range of property services, giving the successful candidate access to clients and projects from across the development lifecycle.
Why this move could make sense
The position offers the chance to build private-sector experience within a structured team while gaining responsibility at a sensible pace. It is suited to someone who wants visible responsibility without losing the support of experienced colleagues.
The role
You will work across science and technology campuses, residential schemes, rural estates, employment and education projects. Depending on seniority, you will lead or support instructions from initial appraisal to determination and beyond.
Prepare clear planning appraisals, statements and strategic advice.
Manage planning applications and coordinate technical inputs.
Maintain regular, professional communication with clients and project teams.
Negotiate constructively with local planning authorities and other stakeholders.
Support larger instructions while steadily increasing your own project responsibility.
About you
Rtpi-accredited qualification; strong writing; some consultancy or local authority experience advantageous. You should also be organised, dependable and able to explain planning issues in straightforward language. The business is interested in people who value good advice and long-term client relationships rather than unnecessary internal politics.
You are not expected to know everything on day one. What matters is a sound academic base, some practical understanding of the planning system and the judgement to ask for support when needed.
Package and working arrangements
The salary is £30,000–£39,000. The wider package includes hybrid working, annual bonus, pension, APC support and paid professional subscriptions. Exact arrangements will depend on experience and will be discussed openly during the process.
