Job Description - Planning Lead

24 month FTC

We are seeking a Planning Lead to be responsible for developing, maintaining, and governing the integrated programme schedule for the different Programme, supporting the transition and service delivery of the revenue collection system. The role will ensure that all programme activities across multiple workstreams are properly planned, integrated, and monitored, enabling effective decision-making and programme control. The Planning Lead will work closely with programme leadership, workstream managers, and stakeholders to manage dependencies, monitor progress, identify risks, and support programme governance.

Key duties include:

  • Develop and maintain the integrated programme master schedule using MS Project, covering mobilisation, transition, and service delivery activities.
  • Ensure all workstreams provide detailed and realistic plans aligned with programme milestones and contractual obligations.
  • Maintain the baseline schedule and manage changes through appropriate governance processes. Monitor programme progress against plan and identify schedule variances and delays.
  • Manage critical path analysis, schedule dependencies, and resource constraints.
  • Provide regular programme schedule reports, highlighting progress, risks, and key milestones.
  • Support the programme in assessing the impact of changes, including potential changes to transition sequencing or programme scope. Conduct schedule impact assessments for proposed changes or risks.
  • Support the development of scenario planning and mitigation strategies.
  • Ensure planning activities comply with programme governance frameworks and contractual milestones.
  • Maintain traceability between contractual deliverables, milestones, and programme schedule.
  • Support programme assurance activities by providing schedule evidence and analysis when required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Project Management, Business, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in programme or project planning within large-scale infrastructure, IT, or transport programmes.
  • Strong experience using Microsoft Project (MS Project) for complex programme scheduling.
  • Demonstrated experience managing large integrated schedules across multiple workstreams.
  • Experience in programme controls, schedule analysis, and reporting.
  • Strong understanding of programme governance, risk management, and change control processes.
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills with the ability to work across multiple organisations and senior stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and coordination skills.
  • Holidays: 25 days per annum + 8 days bank holidays (options to buy/sell days)
