Location: Northampton
Salary: £50,000 - £60,000 per annum
Contracted Hours: 50 hours per week
Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 07:00 – 17:00

A highly reputable and long-established client in the plant and surfacing industry is currently seeking an experienced Plant Mechanic to join their operations team in Northampton. This is an excellent opportunity for a qualified engineer looking to work with a wide variety of modern equipment and enjoy a mix of workshop and field-based responsibilities.

About the Role:
This position involves servicing, maintaining, and repairing a fleet of heavy and small plant machinery used in the road surfacing sector. The successful candidate will be expected to respond to on-site breakdowns as well as conduct preventative maintenance at the depot.

Key Responsibilities:

• Diagnose and repair faults across mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems
• Carry out scheduled servicing and inspections
• Attend on-site breakdowns as part of a 1-in-4 on-call rota (Saturday to Saturday)
• Complete all job documentation and service records accurately
• Adhere to health & safety standards across all working environments
• Maintain plant reliability to minimise operational downtime

Machinery Covered:

• Surfacing equipment
• Pavers
• Planers
• Rollers
• Street Masters
• Small handheld plant such as saws and whacker plates

Candidate Requirements:

• NVQ Level 3 in Plant Maintenance or related discipline (Level 2 considered if time-served)
• Proven experience in a similar role (minimum 5 years preferred)
• Full UK driving licence
• CSCS card
• Ability to work independently and in a team
• Strong diagnostic and fault-finding skills

On-Call & Overtime Details:

• On-call rota: 1 in 4 weeks (Saturday to Saturday)
• Standby fee: £325 per on-call week
• Overtime available regularly
  • Time and a half: 17:00 – 00:00
  • Double time: 00:00 – 06:00
  • Minimum 4 hours paid for on-call callouts
