Job Description - Port Operative

A&P Group – Falmouth – Port Operatives

Do you have experience in a port operations environment mooring and unmooring vessels and handling cargo? If so, we have the opportunity for you.

We are looking for Port Operatives to join our team. In this role you will be crucial to our shipyard operations, handling a variety of tasks related to the loading, unloading and movement of cargo, materials and equipment.

Who are we?

A&P Falmouth is home to one of the world’s largest natural deep-water harbours, the largest ship-repair facility in the UK.

A centre of excellence for Ministry of Defence vessels, ferries, mobilisation and demobilisation works, jack-ups, pontoons and tankers, A&P Falmouth is also a busy working port, handling over 100,000 T of product annually.

What you will do:

  • Undertake vessel mooring and unmooring operations
  • Maintain, install and remove safe access equipment (gangways) to vessels whilst alongside the docks
  • Undertake slinging and banksman duties as required for port operations
  • Undertake stevedoring and cruise operations
  • Operate forklifts, cranes and other port machinery safely and efficiently
  • Operate port operations small craft and workboats within the port
  • Conduct routine safety checks and inspections of port assets and vessels, reporting maintenance requirements as appropriate.

What we are looking for:

  • Previous experience in a similar role within a port/marine operations environment
  • Ability to operate forklifts, cranes and other port machinery (certification is preferred but training can be provided)
  • Physical ability to lift heavy objects, work at height and in confined spaces
  • Strong attention to details and organisational skills
  • Good communication skills and ability to work effectively as part of a team
  • Willingness to work in various weather conditions and on various shift patterns including nights and weekends.
