Portfolio Finance Business Partner / FP&A Manager

As we continue to grow, we seek an exceptional Finance Business Partner / FP&A Manager to lead and develop budgeting, forecasting, and financial modelling processes across the group.

This is a unique opportunity to shape and influence financial performance across multiple businesses while working closely with leadership teams to drive operational and commercial success.

Key Responsibilities:

• Budgeting & Forecasting Leadership:
  - Design, implement, and manage annual budget cycles and rolling forecasts across Birch Faraday’s portfolio companies.
  - Ensure financial plans reflect strategic priorities and operational realities.

• Business Partnering:
  - Work directly with MDs, Commercial Directors, and operational teams within portfolio companies to challenge assumptions, enhance decision-making, and improve financial outcomes.
  - Provide insight and analysis that drive profitability, cash flow optimisation, and value creation.

• Financial Modelling:
  - Build and maintain integrated P&L, Balance Sheet, and Cash Flow models for portfolio companies and Birch Faraday Capital.
  - Support new investment appraisals, scenario analysis, and strategic growth initiatives.

• Capability Development:
  - Coach and develop finance and operational teams within the portfolio, improving their understanding of budgeting, forecasting, and commercial finance principles.

• Group Reporting:
  - Provide concise, accurate, and insightful financial reports and analysis to Birch Faraday leadership to inform capital allocation and strategic decisions.

• Process Improvement:
  - Identify and embed best practice FP&A processes within portfolio companies, some of which may require significant development of financial planning and analysis capabilities.

• Technical Excellence:
  - Advanced Excel and financial modelling skills essential; exposure to Power BI, SQL, or FP&A software desirable.
  - Strong understanding of integrated financial statements and scenario analysis.

Candidate Profile:

• Commercial Acumen:
  - Ability to grasp the commercial drivers of mid-market, operational businesses—particularly in construction, healthcare, and service sectors.
  - Capable of translating complex data into actionable business insight.

• Stakeholder Management:
  - Comfortable challenging and influencing senior stakeholders, including founder-owners and operational leaders.
  - Able to build trust and credibility across diverse management teams.

• Process Leadership:
  - Proven track record of implementing and improving budgeting, forecasting, and reporting processes.

• Leadership Potential:
  - Ability to mentor, coach, and uplift the financial planning skills of both finance and non-finance staff in the portfolio.

• Qualifications:
  - Professional accounting qualification (ACA, ACCA, CIMA) preferred but not essential if backed by strong relevant experience.
