Key Responsibilities

Design, build and optimise Power BI semantic models and reusable datasets.
Support analysts and developers in adopting Power BI best practices.
Work closely with data engineering teams to improve SQL Data Warehouse design and reporting performance.
Develop and maintain Power BI reporting solutions using DAX, Power Query (M) and T-SQL.
Provide technical guidance on data modelling, dataset architecture, query folding and performance optimisation.
Deliver practical training sessions and workshops to small groups of analysts and business users.
Support the migration of existing BusinessObjects reporting workflows into Power BI.
Translate business requirements into effective technical reporting solutions.
Collaborate with technical and non-technical stakeholders to improve reporting processes and data accessibility.
Advise on sustainable reporting practices and future ways of working.

Essential Experience

Extensive hands-on Power BI development experience, including Power BI Desktop and Power BI Service.
Advanced DAX and Power Query (M) skills.
Strong T-SQL experience and integration with SQL-based data warehouses.
Excellent understanding of data modelling, semantic model design and optimisation.
Knowledge of query folding and Power BI performance best practices.
Experience mentoring, training or supporting Power BI users.
Previous experience working in a consultancy, advisory or technical support capacity.
Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.

Desirable Experience

Previous experience migrating from SAP BusinessObjects to Power BI.
Microsoft Fabric experience or DP-600 certification.
Microsoft Certified Trainer qualification.
Experience supporting performance reporting in policing, government, public sector or other regulated environments.

Working Arrangements

This is a predominantly remote contract, with an expectation of approximately 1-2 days per week working on site, across Winchester and Kidlington. Occasional travel to other regional sites may be required.

Both full-time consultants and experienced professionals seeking a part-time engagement of at least two days per week will be considered.
