Role Overview

We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Practice Accountant at AAT Level 4 to join a friendly, growing team. The ideal candidate will have solid experience preparing tax returns, bookkeeping, and working with sole traders and small businesses. You will play a key role in supporting our clients’ accounting needs, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timely delivery of financial information.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare and file personal and sole trader tax returns (Self Assessment)
• Maintain accurate bookkeeping records using accounting software (e.g., Xero, QuickBooks, Sage)
• Assist with VAT returns and payroll processing
• Support clients in managing their financial records and advise on basic tax planning
• Liaise with HMRC and other regulatory bodies on behalf of clients
• Prepare year-end accounts for sole traders and small businesses
• Review and reconcile accounts to ensure accuracy and compliance
• Provide general accounting support to senior accountants and partners
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant tax laws, accounting standards, and best practices

Requirements

• AAT Level 4 qualified (or equivalent)
• Proven experience in practice accounting, particularly with sole traders and small businesses
• Strong knowledge of tax returns preparation and filing (Self Assessment)
• Proficient in bookkeeping and familiar with accounting software such as Xero, QuickBooks, or Sage
• Understanding of VAT, payroll, and other compliance requirements
• Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills
• Strong communication skills with the ability to liaise effectively with clients
• Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
• Commitment to continuous professional development

Desirable

• Experience using cloud accounting platforms
• Additional accounting or tax qualifications
• Knowledge of limited company accounts preparation
