Job Description - Practice Manager

A modern and forward-thinking law firm is seeking a dynamic Practice Manager to take the reins, working closely within the Operations team to ensure the smooth day to day running of the business. With several offices across East Sussex and a headcount of over 100 staff, this is a pivotal role within a well-established and sociable team.

Key Responsibilities
This is a fast-paced, multi-faceted role offering scope to work across:

People Management
  • Oversee support and reception staff across all locations
  • Recruitment, onboarding, induction, and exit interviews
  • Manage appraisals, performance, sickness, holiday, and locum cover
  • Support HR functions in collaboration with the existing team
Operations & Facilities
  • Maintain office infrastructure: repairs, refurbishments, hot desking
  • Manage suppliers and contracts, including stationery and postage services
  • Coordinate office moves and upgrades
Finance & Payroll
  • Prepare payroll data
  • Manage pensions and insurance renewals
  • Support financial reporting to senior leadership
Strategy & Planning
  • Lead operational meetings and contribute to firm-wide strategy
  • Oversee the roll-out of new systems and processes
  • Drive best value in procurement
Wellbeing & Events
  • Coordinate wellbeing initiatives
  • Support delivery of firm-wide events like the annual conference and seasonal celebrations
About You:
This role would suit a confident and capable professional with experience in the legal, NHS, or financial services sectors. You’ll need to be:
  • A proactive problem-solver who’s happy to muck in and shift priorities as needed
  • Experienced in staff management and ideally HR processes
  • A clear communicator who thrives in a collaborative environment
  • Flexible, approachable, and able to work independently across multiple locations
