About the Role

We're seeking an experienced professional to join dmg media’s Commercial Legal Team in an operational and corporate governance role.

This is a unique, high-impact role that goes beyond traditional legal support. While you will be embedded within the Legal team, your remit extends across the business to drive compliance and governance functions. You'll be the "bridge" between legal, risk and the wider business, ensuring our corporate machinery runs with precision.

This role provides an opportunity to shape the way legal and governance services are delivered in one of the UK's most dynamic media and publishing environments.

Main Responsibilities

Corporate Governance and Compliance

  • Support the Commercial Legal Team and other dmg media departments with corporate governance requirements.

  • Ensure compliance with regulatory filings, corporate records, and other regulatory obligations.

  • Prepare materials for and attend committee and compliance meetings, including committee documentation, agendas and project plans.

Legal Operations & Team Support

  • Support the legal team's workflow, including triaging and responding to incoming requests.

  • Provide ad hoc support on commercial paralegal queries.

  • Implement and improve processes to enhance the team's efficiency and responsiveness.

  • Act as the first point of contact for internal stakeholders on routine legal and governance queries.

  • Coordinate with external advisers and manage relationships with other service providers.

Risk & Compliance

  • Support the development and implementation of compliance policies and procedures.

  • Contribute to risk identification, assessment, and mitigation strategies.

  • Maintain compliance registers and ensure timely completion of compliance activities.

Proactive Business Partnering

  • Build strong relationships across the business to understand operational needs.

  • Identify opportunities to streamline processes and reduce legal risk.

  • Provide practical, commercial advice on day-to-day matters.

Person Specification

Essential Experience & Skills

  • 10-15 years' experience in a legal or corporate environment, ideally including governance, or legal operations exposure.

  • Strong understanding of UK commercial law, governance principles, and regulatory compliance.

  • Experience working in-house, particularly in media, publishing, or regulated industries (desirable).

  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and work autonomously.

  • Excellent organisational skills with meticulous attention to detail.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with ability to engage effectively at all levels.

Qualifications

  • Experienced paralegal or legal executive (CILEx).

  • Company secretarial qualification (ICSA) or demonstrable equivalent experience is highly desirable but not essential.

Personal Attributes

  • Proactive and solutions-focused approach.

  • Commercially minded with sound judgment.

  • Discreet and able to handle confidential matters with sensitivity.

  • Collaborative team player who can also work independently.

  • Adaptable and comfortable in a fast-paced environment.
