School Caretaker/Premises Manager

Location: Ware, Hertfordshire

Job Title: School Caretaker

Working Hours: Split Shifts 7am-9:30am & 2:30pm-6:00pm, Monday to Friday. The afternoon shift could be flexible

Contract Type: Contract, with view to Permanent

Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience

We are looking for a reliable and dedicated Caretaker to join our friendly team at this primary school in Ware.

This is a key role in maintaining the safety, cleanliness, and smooth day-to-day running of the school site.

Key Responsibilities:

• Open and secure the school premises at the beginning and end of each day
• Carry out minor repairs and general maintenance
• Ensure the grounds and buildings are clean, safe, and well-presented
• Monitor heating, lighting, and security systems
• Support with deliveries and set-up for school events
• Be a visible and helpful presence on site, ensuring safeguarding protocols are followed

What We’re Looking For:

• Previous caretaking, facilities, or site management experience (preferred but not essential)
• A proactive, practical approach and good problem-solving skills
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Good communication and time management
• A strong commitment to safeguarding and child protection (an enhanced DBS check will be required)
