Job Description - Press Officer

Press Officer - 6 month contract (potential to go perm)
Location: Huntingdon (Hybrid working, 1 day per week in the office)
Salary: up to £37,500 (pro rata)

We're looking for a Press Officer who knows how to spot a good story and can bring it to life for a wide audience. If you have strong media instincts, enjoy working with journalists, and want your work to make a difference, this could be a great fit.

The role
You'll be part of a busy communications team supporting a public sector organisation that's focused on improving communities across the region. The role involves finding and sharing stories that show the impact of their work, building good relationships with the media, and helping shape the public conversation.

You'll work closely with senior leaders, including the Mayor, to promote key messages and respond to media enquiries. Some days will be fast-paced and reactive, others will be about planning ahead and building a pipeline of positive stories.

What you'll be doing

  • Creating and sharing news stories across print, digital and broadcast media
  • Pitching stories to regional and national journalists
  • Responding to media enquiries and managing press issues as they arise
  • Working with colleagues across communications, policy, and public affairs
  • Helping develop media briefings and campaign content
  • Tracking and reporting on media coverage

What we're looking for

  • Strong writing skills and a clear, confident communication style
  • Experience working with the media and placing stories
  • Good judgement and the ability to work quickly under pressure
  • Someone who can build relationships with journalists and colleagues alike
  • Knowledge of public sector or political environments is a plus, but not essential

You'll need to be flexible with your working hours from time to time and be able to travel within the region when required.

This is a great opportunity for someone who wants to be part of a creative, forward-looking team and use their communications skills to support real change in local communities.
