Primary Classroom Assistant

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Primary Classroom Assistant to help to improve the lives of young people.

You will be working for a Primary school in Leeds and be dedicated to helping young people (aged 5-11) with a range of special educational needs.

It's challenging but thoroughly rewarding; you'll meet some great young people, and have access to brilliant training and development opportunities!

This school caters for young people with a Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) who may be non-verbal. Experience supporting people with similar needs in the past would be preferred. You may have experienced using British Sign Language (BSL), Makaton or PECS.

This position is full-time, long-term and to start in September 2024.

Your Role:

• Supporting learners on a one-to-one basis or in small groups.
• Working with other support staff to engage pupils in class.
• You will be assisting pupils with Autism, SEMH, ADHD and Learning Difficulties of varying complexities.
• Upholding the safeguarding of all pupils.

What you will need:

• A range of behaviour management techniques
• Patience and resilience.
• The ability to engage a young person in learning through a range of methods
• To be reliable and commit to working at the school everyday for an extended period of time.
