We're working with a leading UK transport planning consultancy that is looking to appoint a Principal / Associate Highway Engineer to join its team in a lovely central Bristol office.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced highway design professional to join an established, multi-office design team, working alongside colleagues based across the UK.
The role sits within a transport planning consultancy, with a particular focus on planning-stage highway design for development projects. You will play a key role in developing highway solutions to support planning applications, providing technical input and working closely with transport planners, clients and local authorities.

Provide technical leadership and guidance on highway design projects. Undertake and review junction modelling, forecasting and technical assessments. Prepare and review highway design inputs for Transport Assessments and technical reports. Work closely with transport planners, clients, local authorities and other project stakeholders. Manage project programmes, budgets, resources and commercial performance. Build and maintain client relationships, supporting repeat business and wider business development. Mentor and support the development of junior engineers and technicians. Requirements:
Significant experience in highway design within a consultancy environment. Strong technical knowledge of highway design standards and relevant legislation. Proficiency in AutoCAD and Civil 3D. Experience delivering planning-stage highway design, ideally within a development or transport planning environment. Experience leading highway design projects and managing project delivery. Knowledge of junction modelling and highway-related technical assessments. Understanding of highway agreements, planning obligations and approval processes. Strong communication and client-facing skills. Commercial awareness and an interest in contributing to business development. ICE, CIHT or equivalent membership, with Chartership or working towards it advantageous. What's on Offer?
Salary/package valued at £45,000 - £70,000 DOE. Lovely central Bristol office location. Opportunity to join an established highway design team with colleagues across multiple UK offices. 25 days annual leave plus bank holidays, increasing with service. Employer pension contributions of 5%, increasing with long service. Discretionary biannual bonus scheme. Private medical insurance. Life assurance and critical illness cover. Payment of two professional subscriptions. Hybrid and flexible working arrangements. Ongoing professional development and training. This opportunity would suit an established Principal Engineer looking for their next step, or an existing Associate seeking a new challenge within a well-established and growing transport planning consultancy.
