3-month contract role with a local authority


Summary




  • The Principal Enforcement Officer (Housing Enforcement) is a 3-month contract role with a local authority, focused on leading and executing complex housing enforcement investigations and regulatory activities. This position plays a crucial role in ensuring compliance with housing legislation, licensing requirements, and property standards within the private rented sector. The successful candidate will be instrumental in maintaining high standards of housing quality and safety.



Responsibilities





  • Lead investigations into complex housing enforcement cases involving breaches of housing legislation, licensing requirements, and property management regulations.

  • Conduct inspections of residential properties, including Houses in Multiple Occupation (HMOs), licensed premises, and privately rented accommodation.

  • Identify housing hazards and determine appropriate enforcement action in accordance with housing legislation and statutory guidance.

  • Prepare and serve enforcement notices, improvement notices, prohibition orders, civil penalties, and emergency remedial actions.

  • Undertake investigations into offences under the Housing Act 2004, HMO Management Regulations, and related legislation.


Requirements:



Essential Experience Required





  • Significant experience working within Housing Enforcement, Private Sector Housing, or Environmental Health.

  • Extensive knowledge of the Housing Act 2004 and associated housing legislation.

  • Experience regulating Houses in Multiple Occupation (HMOs) and housing licensing schemes.




Essential Qualifications Required





  • Degree or equivalent qualification in Environmental Health, Housing, Regulatory Services, or a related discipline.

  • Professional qualification relevant to Housing Enforcement, Environmental Health, or Regulatory Services.

  • Working hours: 36 hours per week

  • Location: 160 Tooley Street, London, SE1 2QH, United Kingdom

  • Work pattern: 2 days remote, 3 days in the office

  • The role closes on 3rd August 2026, apply ASAP.
