Principal Mechanical Design Engineer

Overview
We are supporting a leading engineering consultancy looking to appoint a Principal Mechanical Design Engineer to join their Glasgow office. This is a key leadership position, offering the opportunity to take ownership of major projects, mentor engineers, and contribute to the growth of the team.

Role Responsibilities

Lead the mechanical design delivery of building services projects across sectors including commercial, residential, healthcare, and mixed-use
Take responsibility for project performance, ensuring delivery to quality, budget, and programme
Produce and review detailed design calculations, specifications, and drawings
Design systems including HVAC, heating, cooling, ventilation, and public health
Ensure compliance with UK building regulations, CIBSE guidelines, and British Standards
Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior and intermediate engineers
Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, contractors, and multidisciplinary teams
Support business development, bids, and client engagement
Requirements

Proven experience as a Senior or Principal Mechanical Design Engineer within building services
Strong technical expertise across HVAC and mechanical systems design
Track record of leading projects and managing teams
In-depth knowledge of UK regulations and industry best practice
Strong communication and leadership skills
Qualifications & Professional Development

Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline
