Job Description - Principal Planning Officer

?? Principal Planning Officer - Rugby Borough Council
?? Location: Rugby, Warwickshire
?? Contract: Initially 3 Months (with potential extension)
?? Rate: £26/hour (Umbrella)
?? Site Presence: 2 Days per Week in Office

About the Role:
Rugby Borough Council is seeking an experienced and dedicated Principal Planning Officer to support the Planning Department. In this role, you will take a lead on complex and high-profile planning applications, provide expert guidance on planning policies and legislation, and contribute to the overall growth and development of the borough. The position offers flexible working, with a requirement for 2 days per week in the office.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead on complex planning applications and provide professional advice to ensure they meet statutory requirements.

  • Advise on planning policies and legislation to internal and external stakeholders.

  • Represent the Council at planning committee meetings and public consultations.

  • Review and develop planning policies, strategies, and frameworks.

  • Liaise with external partners such as developers, architects, and other local authorities.

  • Ensure planning decisions are made within statutory deadlines and in compliance with legal frameworks.

Essential Skills & Experience:

  • Significant experience as a Planning Officer, ideally within a local authority context.

  • In-depth knowledge of planning legislation, policies, and procedures.

  • Ability to manage a caseload of planning applications independently.

  • Strong communication and negotiation skills, both written and verbal.

  • A degree in Planning or a related field, or equivalent experience.

Desirable Skills:

  • Experience working with local planning frameworks, especially in Rugby or similar areas.

  • Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse range of stakeholders.

  • Knowledge of the latest trends and changes in planning law and policies.
