Private Client Solicitor

A well-established and respected law firm based in the market town of Skipton—known as the "Gateway to the Dales"—is seeking a qualified Solicitor or Legal Executive with a minimum of 3 years’ PQE to join its Private Client department.

The successful candidate will assume responsibility for an existing and diverse caseload covering the full range of Private Client matters. Responsibilities will include:

• Drafting and executing wills from initial instruction to signature
• Preparing and registering Lasting Powers of Attorney
• Obtaining Grants of Representation and administering estates, including the preparation of estate accounts
• Advising on inheritance tax planning and implementing appropriate arrangements, including lifetime trusts, deeds of variation, and other gifting strategies
• Preparing and submitting inheritance tax accounts, with particular emphasis on Agricultural and Business Property Reliefs
• Administering lifetime and will trusts, including the preparation of trust accounts, tax returns, and relevant deeds to alter or terminate trusts
• Preparing and managing Court of Protection Deputyship applications and ancillary matters
• Advising attorneys on their duties and providing assistance as required

Due to the nature of the client base—many of whom are elderly—occasional visits to clients in their homes, hospitals, or care facilities may be required.

While a STEP qualification is preferred, it is not essential, and candidates who do not yet hold the full STEP Diploma will be expected to work towards obtaining it.
