Private Housing Standards Officer

We are currently looking for an experienced Private Housing Standards Officer to join a busy Private Sector Housing service. This Private Housing Standards Officer role will focus on improving housing conditions through inspections, enforcement, HMO regulation and housing standards interventions across the private rented sector.

The successful candidate will investigate housing condition complaints, undertake HHSRS inspections and take enforcement action where required. This Private Housing Standards Officer position would suit someone with previous experience within private sector housing, housing enforcement or environmental health services.

The Role
- Investigating complaints relating to poor housing conditions and disrepair.
- Carrying out HHSRS inspections and property assessments.
- Investigating HMO complaints and monitoring licensing compliance.
- Taking informal and formal enforcement action to improve housing standards.
- Serving statutory notices and preparing legal case files.
- Supporting mandatory, additional and selective licensing schemes.
- Investigating empty homes and supporting initiatives to bring properties back into use.
- Supporting compliance with Minimum Energy Efficiency Standards (MEES).
- Maintaining accurate case records using Uniform and other systems.
- Attending courts, tribunals and legal proceedings where required.

Key Requirements
- Previous experience working as a Private Housing Standards Officer, Private Sector Housing Officer, Housing Enforcement Officer or Environmental Health Officer.
- Experience carrying out HHSRS inspections and assessments.
- Knowledge of the Housing Act 2004 and private sector housing legislation.
- Experience investigating housing condition complaints and HMO cases.
- Experience taking enforcement action and preparing legal case files.
- Experience working with licensing schemes and housing standards enforcement.
