Private Rented Sector Enabling Officer

We are currently looking for an experienced Private Rented Sector Enabling Officer to support a busy Housing Service with securing suitable private rented accommodation for households who are homeless or threatened with homelessness. The role will focus on working directly with landlords and letting agents to increase access to the private rented sector, prevent homelessness and support the reduction of temporary accommodation.

The role offers hybrid working, with approximately 3 days in the office and 2 days working from home, with travel required for property visits.

The Role
·Proactively source suitable private rented sector accommodation for homeless households and those threatened with homelessness.
·Manage a caseload of households requiring a move into the private rented sector.
·Work with households to secure sustainable PRS lettings and support homelessness prevention.
·Build and maintain relationships with private landlords, letting agents and accommodation providers.
·Negotiate with landlords and agents to secure suitable properties for households referred by the Housing Service.
·Make effective use of available incentives and tools to encourage landlords to work with the service.
·Undertake property visits and affordability assessments to ensure placements are suitable and sustainable.
·Work closely with Housing Options and wider housing teams to identify and place suitable applicants.
·Maintain a strong understanding of the local private rented market and available accommodation.
·Contribute to the delivery of the Council's temporary accommodation reduction strategy.

Key Requirements
·3-5 years' experience within Private Rented Sector or Housing Options services.
·Strong experience working directly with private landlords and letting agents.
·Experience sourcing and securing private rented accommodation for homeless households.
·Good knowledge of housing and homelessness legislation and local authority statutory duties.
·Experience supporting homelessness prevention and move-on into the private rented sector.
·Experience undertaking property visits and affordability assessments.
·Previous experience delivering operational housing services within a local authority, registered provider or similar housing environment.
·Good understanding of the challenges associated with securing PRS accommodation in high-demand areas.
