Product Engineer sought by the Windows division of a £multibillion construction products manufacturer to join their team in Ross-on-Wye. This global organisation has nearly 200 locations worldwide and supplies to a range of industries including construction, industrial and automotive industries.
Due to retirement, they have an opportunity for a Product Design professional with construction industry experience to join their head office Technical department.
Your Role as Product Engineer: As a Product Engineer, you will report Head of Production Management, as an integral part of the Technical team.
Your duties will include:
Designing window profiles, doors (including sliding & patio) – around a dozen different systems, with multiple variations within those systems Working on new and existing products (circa 50/50 split depending on experience) Designing new types of window profiles and doors, and managing changes and developments to existing products Working on around 2-3 projects at any given time Direct liaison with fabricator clients, giving information and responding to queries regarding technical information etc. Taking the lead on some projects including product testing (weather performance, security etc) ensuring that products adhere to British Standards Discussing hardware requirements with hardware suppliers Working closely the company’s UK-based extrusion factory, and development teams in Germany Occasional travel with sales colleagues to fabricators throughout the UK when required to provide technical information on new products Occasional travel to Germany (around 1-2 times per year)Your Experience & Skills as Product Engineer:
Educated to degree/HND level or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering/Design or similar, relevant discipline, or qualified by experience Minimum 2-3 years experience in a Product Design / Product Engineering role Demonstrable success in product development and technical application of products for the construction sector Experience in the fenestration industry would be beneficial Experience of working with suppliers, customers, and product design teams Familiar with manufacturing processes e.g. injection moulding, extrusion, fabrication Understanding of ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 Strong working knowledge of CAD is essential 3D modelling - Solidworks experience would be highly beneficial An interest in SMART-home, digital technologies and sustainable product design would be relevant Willing to travel at short notice (poor car provided) Language skills, in particular German, is useful but not essentialBenefits:
