Production Engineer Location: Bedfordshire Salary: £50,000-£55,000
We are currently looking for someone to join an established engineering and manufacturing business as a Production Engineer, supporting the transition of new and existing products into efficient, repeatable production.
Main role overview:
* Take ownership of manufacturing and test processes across electronics and electromechanical products, ensuring quality, reliability, cost and delivery targets are achieved.
* Lead and improve New Product Introduction (NPI) processes, working closely with Engineering to ensure designs are optimised for manufacture and test.
* Develop and implement effective manufacturing methods, production fixtures, test processes and detailed work instructions.
* Drive continuous improvement through Lean / Six Sigma principles, process optimisation and data-led performance improvements.
* Work closely with production teams, suppliers and subcontract manufacturers to resolve issues and improve manufacturing capability.
Requirements:
* Proven experience in Production Engineering within electronics or Electro-Mechanical manufacturing.
* Strong understanding of NPI, Design for Manufacture (DFM) and Design for Test (DFT) principles.
* Experience developing manufacturing processes, test methods, fixtures and work instructions.
* Working knowledge of Lean / Six Sigma and continuous improvement techniques.
* Experience using ERP systems, Bills of Materials (BOMs) and production data to support manufacturing operations.
* Strong analytical, problem-solving and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively across Engineering, Manufacturing and external suppliers.
Responsibilities:
* Manage the effective transition of developmental products into production, ensuring they are manufacturable, testable and cost effective.
* Develop, improve and maintain manufacturing and test processes, instructions, fixtures and documentation.
* Analyse production workflows, layouts, equipment, resources and processes to identify opportunities for improved efficiency, quality and cost.
* Diagnose manufacturing and test issues, implement corrective actions and provide technical support and training to production personnel.
* Monitor production and quality KPIs, using data to identify trends and drive continuous improvement.
* Liaise with Engineering, suppliers and subcontract manufacturers to maintain quality, capability, efficiency and delivery performance Only candidates based in UK and eligible to work in UK are allowed
