PLEASE NO AGENCY CONTACT - WE MANAGE RECRUITMENT INTERNALLY

Production Technician - Scientific Instruments

Full-time

Start date - June 2026

Applied Photophysics Ltd. (a Nicoya Lifesciences Company)

About Us

Applied Photophysics is a global leader in the design and manufacture of high-performance scientific instruments used in cutting-edge life science research. As part of Nicoya Lifesciences, we are on a mission to enable scientists to better understand the world at a molecular level.

We’re scaling production to meet growing global demand—and we’re looking for a hands-on Production Technician to help build the next generation of our instruments.

The Role

At Applied Photophysics we are committed to quality and meeting our customer needs.  We are seeking a Production Technician to join our team in helping us maintain those commitments.

This is not a repetitive assembly role.

As a Production Technician, you will build a range of products—from straightforward sub-assemblies to highly complex scientific instruments with tight mechanical tolerances and precision optical alignment.

You’ll work across mechanical, electrical, optical, and fluidic/gas systems, bringing together components into finished instruments used by researchers worldwide.

If you enjoy building, troubleshooting, and seeing a product come to life, this role is for you.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assemble electro-mechanical and optical systems, from simple builds to complex instruments

  • Perform precision mechanical assembly with tight tolerances

  • Carry out soldering and wiring of electronic components and sub-assemblies

  • Install and route fluidic tubing and gas lines (e.g., nitrogen)

  • Perform system-level testing, calibration, and basic troubleshooting

  • Follow and improve SOPs and work instructions

  • Identify build or quality issues and support root cause analysis

  • Collaborate with engineering to improve manufacturability and build efficiency

  • Maintain accurate production and test records

  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives to increase throughput and quality

What You Bring

  • Experience in a hands-on manufacturing or assembly role

  • Proven soldering skills (through-hole and/or fine work preferred)

  • Strong attention to detail, especially when working to tight tolerances

  • Ability to read and follow technical drawings, schematics, and work instructions

  • Comfortable using hand tools and basic electrical test equipment

  • A practical problem-solver who takes ownership of their work

  • Strong teamwork and communication skills

Nice to Have

  • Experience with scientific instruments, optics, or precision equipment

  • Familiarity with optical alignment or calibration

  • Experience working in an ISO 9001 (or similar) environment

  • Exposure to low-volume, high-complexity manufacturing

Why Join Us

  • Build products that directly support scientific discovery

  • Work in a high-impact, growing production environment

  • Develop skills across mechanical, electrical, and optical systems

  • Be part of a collaborative, hands-on team that takes pride in what it builds

The Recruitment Process

This role is expected to begin in early June

  • Applicants will be reviewed but only those selected for an interview will be contacted

  • Interviews will be a combination of virtual as well as in person

  • In person interviews will be held at 21, Mole Business Park, Randalls Rd, Leatherhead

Nicoya is an inclusive and equal opportunity employer. If you require accommodation to participate in the recruitment process, please let us know. We will accommodate your needs as required under applicable legislation. Information related to accommodation requirements will be addressed confidentially.

If you’re excited by hands-on work, precision builds, and contributing to meaningful technology—we’d love to hear from you.
