Project Manager

Job Description - Project Manager

Description

As a Project Manager within the HR & Chief Operations Office (COO) Platforms team, you will lead the delivery of a diverse range of initiatives that support colleagues across HR, Procurement and other COO enabled functions. You will be responsible for planning and delivering projects from initiation through to implementation, ensuring they are completed safely, on time, within budget, and in line with required business outcomes.

Working with senior stakeholders, delivery teams, suppliers, and business representatives, you will coordinate a broad range of activities, manage risks and dependencies, and provide clear reporting through governance.

The role offers exposure to a variety of change initiatives, including platform implementations, system upgrades, data and technology migrations, regulatory change, and integration.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Project Manager who enjoys working in a fast-paced environment, building stakeholder relationships, and delivering meaningful change across a broad portfolio of strategic initiatives.

We are happy to consider flexible working approaches to help you perform at your best.

At Nationwide we offer hybrid working wherever possible. More rewarding relationships are supported through our hybrid approach, bringing colleagues together across our UK wide estate, whilst also supporting generous access to home working. We value our time in the office to solve problems, to learn, and to feel connected.

For this job you'll be located at our nearest regional office or hub. There will be a need to regularly connect with colleagues for collaboration and in some locations you’ll be expected to spend at least two days a week, or if part time you'll spend 40% of your working time, in the office. If your application is successful, your hiring manager will provide further details on how this works.

Nationwide is committed to the redeployment of our employees impacted by change, as such applications for redeployment candidates will be prioritised in this recruitment process.

If you’re a colleague on long-term absence (for example, on parental leave) or a temporary worker, please use your personal email address to submit an application.

Responsibilities

What you’ll be doing

You'll lead projects through the full delivery lifecycle, working closely with business and technology teams to turn requirements into successful outcomes. Each day you'll coordinate plans, manage risks and dependencies, engage stakeholders, and ensure delivery teams remain focused on achieving agreed objectives.

You'll provide regular updates to governance forums and senior leaders, helping them make informed decisions and remove delivery barriers. You'll also work with suppliers and business representatives to ensure change is successfully implemented and adopted by end users.

About you

As a minimum requirement, you’ll have:

  • Proven experience managing medium to large-scale business and technology projects from initiation through to implementation and closure
  • Stakeholder management skills, with experience engaging and influencing senior leaders, business representatives, technology teams, and external suppliers
  • Demonstrable experience developing and managing project plans, RAIDs and delivery reporting
  • Experience delivering a variety of change initiatives, such as technology implementations, platform upgrades, data migrations, regulatory change, business transformation, or integration programmes
  • Ability to lead cross-functional teams and coordinate activities across multiple workstreams to deliver agreed outcomes
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with experience presenting to governance forums and senior stakeholders
  • Experience applying structured project delivery methodologies and controls to ensure projects are delivered safely, compliantly, and in line with organisational standards

Our customer first behaviours put customers and members at the heart of how we work together. They are the set of behaviours that every colleague needs to display, in every role:

  • Feel what customers feel - We step into our customers’ shoes, using their feedback and insights to empathise with them and to understand their needs, so that every decision we make starts and finishes with our customers in mind

  • Say it straight - We are brave in speaking out and saying what we think – we’re honest and direct with good intent, openly sharing diverse perspectives to reach the best conclusions and using language everyone can understand

  • Push for better - We don’t settle for mediocrity, we challenge the status quo, taking responsibility for continuous improvement and personal development

  • Get it done - We prioritise what will have the greatest impact, we are decisive, and we take accountability for delivering brilliant customer outcomes

You can strengthen your application by showing how our customer first behaviours resonate with you, and where you may have already demonstrated these.
