Project Manager – Civil Engineering / NEC

M5 Corridor – Midlands to South West | £80,000 – £100,000 + Package

We are recruiting for an experienced Project Manager to join an established and ambitious civil engineering contractor delivering major civils and groundworks packages across the Midlands and South West.

This is an excellent opportunity for a Project Manager with a strong civil engineering background and NEC contract experience who is comfortable taking ownership of projects from mobilisation through to successful completion.

Projects typically range from approximately £1m to £10m and include work across commercial construction, education, schools, DfE programmes, MOD/MOJ and prison environments, alongside other major public and private sector developments.

The geographical requirement broadly follows the M5 corridor, from the Midlands through Worcestershire, Gloucestershire and the South West, with projects potentially extending as far as Plymouth.

The Role

As Project Manager, you'll take overall responsibility for the successful operational delivery of civil engineering packages.

You'll lead projects from pre-start and mobilisation through construction, completion and handover, working closely with Commercial, Engineering and Site Management teams.

Typical works can include:

* Groundworks and civil engineering

* Bulk earthworks

* Drainage and attenuation

* Foundations and substructures

* Reinforced concrete

* External works

* Roads and infrastructure

* Section 278 works

* Services and utilities

* Hard landscaping

* Associated enabling works

You'll be responsible for programme, resources, client relationships, health & safety, quality and overall project performance.

NEC Experience

Strong NEC experience is important for this appointment.

We're looking for somebody who understands how an NEC project needs to be managed operationally – not simply somebody who has previously worked on a project where NEC happened to be the form of contract.

You'll need to understand the importance of programme management, early warnings, compensation events, accurate records, change management and close collaboration between the operational and commercial teams.

Your Background

We're particularly interested in candidates with experience across:

Civil Engineering | Groundworks | Infrastructure | Education | DfE | MOD/MOJ | Prisons | Commercial Construction

Ideally, you'll have:

* Proven Project Management experience within civil engineering

* Experience delivering projects/packages between circa £1m and £10m

* Strong NEC contract knowledge

* Experience managing projects from mobilisation through to completion

* Excellent programming and planning skills

* Strong health & safety leadership

* Good commercial awareness

* Experience managing subcontractors, direct labour and plant

* Strong client-facing communication skills

* Experience operating within Tier 1/main contractor environments

* Appropriate SMSTS, CSCS and First Aid qualifications

* Full UK driving licence

Experience delivering projects within schools, education, DfE, MOD or MOJ/prison environments would be particularly attractive.

Location & Travel

This isn't a Project Manager position where you'll spend five days a week sitting in the same office.

Projects are located along the M5 corridor from the Midlands into the South West, potentially extending as far as Plymouth.

We're therefore looking for someone who is comfortable travelling and working across this geographical area as projects dictate.
