Job Description - Project Planning Engineer

The Opportunity

We are recruiting for an experienced Planning Engineer to join the portfolio engineering team of a major UK energy and infrastructure organisation.

This is an excellent opportunity for a planner with a strong background in project planning, programme controls and complex engineering projects to take on a varied role supporting projects and planned outages across a portfolio of operational sites.

You will act as a key planning interface between site teams, engineering and support functions, and external contractors, helping to ensure projects are properly planned, coordinated and delivered safely, efficiently and to agreed programme milestones.

The role would suit an experienced planner from power generation, utilities, infrastructure, oil & gas, petrochemical, heavy engineering or another complex operational environment.

Key Responsibilities

Support the development and delivery of a standardised outage planning structure across the portfolio.
Develop, maintain and integrate project programmes to ensure works are delivered safely and efficiently.
Monitor and report agreed project KPIs covering safety, programme, financial, environmental and quality performance.
Identify, record and report risks to key project and outage milestones.
Liaise with site outage managers and stakeholders across H&S, Environmental, Engineering, Finance and Performance.
Work closely with contractors and key delivery partners to ensure their programmes accurately reflect the planned works and integrate effectively with overall project programmes.
Ensure ad hoc and emergent projects are subject to appropriate planning and programme controls, even where delivery is required under significant time pressure.
Support the implementation and continual improvement of portfolio planning standards, processes and reporting.
Provide accurate programme information, forecasts and progress updates to project and senior stakeholders.
Support the identification of programme risks, opportunities, dependencies and recovery actions.
Manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously across the portfolio.

About You

We are looking for a technically strong and commercially aware Planning Engineer who enjoys working in a complex, operational environment.

You will ideally have:

Proven experience in project planning and programme controls.
Strong knowledge of project execution from planning through to completion and handover.
Advanced experience using Primavera P6, MS Project or similar planning software.
Experience with budget forecasting, financial reporting, cost control and/or contract management.
Good understanding of project risk, change control, programme performance and work control processes.
Knowledge of Health & Safety, CDM and environmental requirements.
Experience working with contractors and integrating multiple programmes or workstreams.
Strong Microsoft Office skills and ideally experience with systems such as Maximo.
Minimum HNC/HND in an engineering-related discipline, with a degree desirable.Experience within power generation is desirable, particularly exposure to large rotating plant, HRSG/pressure systems or major industrial maintenance and outage environments. However, strong planners from adjacent sectors such as utilities, infrastructure, oil & gas, petrochemical or heavy engineering will also be considered.

Knowledge of Generation Safety Rules would be advantageous.

The Role

This is a multi-site position, with regular travel required to operational sites across the UK. A valid UK driving licence is therefore essential.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work on significant engineering and outage projects within a major energy infrastructure portfolio, gaining exposure to complex operational assets and a wide range of stakeholders and delivery partners.
