Mental Health Assistant Maidenhead £90 - £110 per day Long Term

An inclusive and supportive specialist school in Maidenhead is looking for a Mental Health Assistant to join their team on a long-term basis. The school supports children and young people with a range of Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs, learning difficulties and emotional and behavioural challenges, providing a nurturing environment where pupils can feel safe, understood and supported. The role is to start in September 2026.
The role as a Mental Health Assistant
As a Mental Health Assistant, you will work closely with pupils who may require additional support with their emotional wellbeing, behaviour, confidence, communication and engagement with learning.
Your responsibilities may include:
Providing 1:1 and small-group support to pupils with SEMH needs and learning difficulties. Supporting pupils to engage positively with learning and school life. Helping pupils develop confidence, emotional regulation and positive coping strategies. Supporting the class teacher with classroom activities and learning. Adapting your approach to meet the individual needs of different pupils.Every pupil is different, so this role will give you the opportunity to develop your understanding of individual needs, behaviour, emotional wellbeing and child development in a real educational setting.

For graduates or individuals considering a career in psychology, counselling, therapy, education, youth work or mental health, this role provides valuable first-hand experience of working with children and young people with a range of additional needs.
You will gain insight into how schools support pupils experiencing anxiety, trauma, emotional difficulties, behavioural challenges and barriers to learning, while developing practical skills in communication, relationship-building, emotional support and behaviour management.
You don't necessarily need previous experience working with students.What matters most is that you are compassionate, patient, proactive and genuinely interested in understanding and supporting young people.
The successful Mental Health Assistant will be:
