I'm working on behalf of a large, well-established organisation that's continuing to invest heavily in its finance function. Their central finance team supports a sizeable national operation, and they're now looking to appoint a Purchase Ledger Team Leader to oversee a busy, high-volume team during a 12-month fixed-term contract initially, with the view to transition into the team permanently later down the line.

This is a role where you'll have the autonomy to influence how the team operates, support people to develop and play an active part in improving processes across the wider finance function.

The Opportunity

Reporting into the Purchase Ledger Manager, you'll lead an experienced team responsible for delivering an efficient purchase ledger service across multiple business units.

Whilst you'll remain close enough to the day-to-day operation to understand what's happening, this role is equally about coaching your team, removing obstacles and continually looking at how things can be done better.

You'll work closely with colleagues across finance and the wider business, helping to resolve challenges, improve ways of working and ensure the team continues to deliver an excellent service.

What you'll be doing

• Managing, motivating and developing a team within a fast-paced finance function


• Monitoring workloads and ensuring priorities are managed effectively


• Acting as the escalation point for more complex supplier and internal queries


• Overseeing supplier payment deadlines and operational performance


• Reviewing controls and ensuring financial information is processed accurately


• Building strong relationships with stakeholders across the business


• Identifying opportunities to streamline processes and improve efficiencies


• Supporting wider finance projects and continuous improvement initiatives

About you

You'll already have experience within Purchase Ledger and will ideally have supervised or mentored others, whether formally or informally.

You'll be someone who enjoys bringing people together, solving problems and improving the way things are done, rather than simply maintaining the status quo.

We're looking for someone who can demonstrate:

• Previous experience within a high-volume purchase ledger environment


• Experience leading or supervising a finance team


• Excellent organisational and communication skills


• A collaborative, approachable leadership style


• The confidence to challenge existing processes and suggest improvements


• The ability to build relationships across all levels of a business
