Job Description - Purchasing Manager

Location : UK Wellingborough

Hours of Work : 8:00 - 16.30 (Mon - Thurs) 8:00 - 13.30 (Fri)

The post holder must be flexible in their approach and willing to work reasonable hours as the business requires

Travel Requirement: In Line with business needs
Purpose of Role:

Delivery of a customer focussed service, whilst meeting all Health & Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost and Morale targets.
To ensure the right material & consumables arrive at the right time, before the point of assembly fit / despatch. To reduce & challenge inventory levels and ensure no obsolete stock when introducing engineering changes.
To drive, develop and challenge the procurement strategy.
To work proactively, driving best practice and a positive culture of problem solving, continuous improvement and task execution to drive the company forward.
Main duties and responsibilities:

Effective management of the materials team challenging material ordering processes through management of system exception reporting in order to meet customer requirements, whilst maintaining profitability.

Ensure effective expediting of raw materials, components and sub-contract operations from designated suppliers, to ensure on time delivery to customers.

Identification & communication of supply shortfalls and ensure mitigation is in place to minimise effects on manufacturing

Liaise with other personnel across the group as necessary to ensure the successful production and transportation of goods whilst ensuring contractual obligations are fulfilled

Monitor, drive and reduce inventory levels against agreed target levels.

Lead procurement process, including negotiations (cost & terms) to ensure a benchmarked and quality approach ensuring compliance to all quality standards.

Lead & implement business initiatives to reduce all purchase costs and improvement of contract terms.

Monitor and lead supplier performance and development initiatives, building relationships with suppliers to guarantee effective delivery and adherence to KPIs.

Monitor and analyse data, to enable rationalisation of the supplier base, contributing to cost savings and improved efficiency.

Implement best practice procurement processes with a focus on compliance, process improvement, and the use of tools and reporting.

Management, mentoring and development of team to create a high performing team.

Effective management of transport costs

Identify, monitor & resolve process gaps

Provide up-to-date analysis and reports illustrating Supplier and business performance and forecasts to support business initiatives

Use problem solving tools & techniques to Investigate causes of deviation from process

Carry out reasonable additional responsibilities as requested by the Company

Health & Safety (Near miss Reporting)

Cost (Inventory Value, DOH, Inventory Turns, Obsolescence Value, Special Freight, Benchmarking)

Delivery (Supplier OTD, Supplier OTIF, Supplier Arrears, Exception Reporting Status)

People/HR (Development / Training Reds)

Person Specification

Desirable:

Education and Training

?

HND or equivalent
MCIPS Qualified & Certified
Experience

?Knowledge of Oracle based management system preferred but not essential as training will be given
Essential:

Extensive experience in a Material control role
Good understanding of MRP and other material planning systems
Project management skills, including the ability to produce and work to timing plans
Understanding of modern material control processes
Key Skills
Strong negotiation skills and the ability to build and maintain relationships with suppliers and internal stakeholders.
Excellent analytical skills
Well organised, with excellent communication skills
You will have good interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate well with people at all levels.

Be able to communicate effectively at all levels within the organisation and externally
