Purchasing Manager - M&E - Competitive Pay

Founded in 1995, our client has established itself as a leading supplier in the UK's mechanical and electrical market.

They are currently looking to recruit an experienced Purchasing Manager to join their Senior Management Team. Reporting to the CEO, the Purchasing Manager will have full responsibility for sourcing and procuring the best quality goods and services at the most competitive prices, ensuring the Company's successful operation in its chosen commercial sectors.

Main Responsibilities:

• Implement company-defined purchasing policies, procedures, and best practices.
• Facilitate timely placement of purchase orders through the demand planning tool.
• Manage the procurement process to ensure timely and budget-compliant purchases and deliveries.
• Oversee the purchasing and vendor/product sourcing team.
• Develop and maintain strategic relationships with key suppliers.
• Organise freight and shipping from Asian manufacturing facilities.
• Maintain the availability of approximately 1300 active parts.
• Manage purchasing budgets, set stock targets, and prepare forecasts as needed.
• Review and authorise purchase orders, ensuring price and lead time accuracy.
• Identify and source new suppliers in conjunction with the Vendor and Product Manager.
• Establish and maintain an approved supplier database.
• Develop, negotiate, and manage purchasing framework agreements and contracts with suppliers.
• Monitor supplier performance and ensure compliance with quality and delivery standards.
• Address and resolve cost, quality, and delivery issues.
• Manage risk related to quality, cost, and product availability.
• Introduce performance improvement measures for suppliers and vendors.

Qualifications and Experience:

• Qualification in purchasing, business, materials management, operations management, or related fields.
• Experience in supplier negotiation and procurement, preferably importing from Asia.
• Strong commercial skills, preferably with a manufacturing background.
• Knowledge of purchasing principles and practices.
• Familiarity with demand planning and MRP/ERP systems.
• Strong numeracy, financial, and commercial acumen.
• Experience with Microsoft Dynamics - Business Central preferred but not essential.
• High competency in MS Office applications.
• Previous team management experience.
• Proven success in a similar role.
