Reporting to the QHSE Manager and working closely with the Product Quality Manager, this highly visible role is responsible for driving quality excellence across both internal assembly operations and the external supply chain. The successful candidate will provide hands-on support to production, lead quality improvement activities, develop robust manufacturing controls, and manage supplier quality performance. This is an excellent opportunity for a quality professional who enjoys a varied role involving production support, supplier development, audit management, and continuous improvement within a lean manufacturing environment. Key Responsibilities – Quality Engineer: Provide daily hands-on quality support to the assembly facility, ensuring quality issues are identified, contained, escalated, and resolved effectively. Act as the primary quality contact for production, supporting rapid issue resolution and maintaining manufacturing flow. Lead root cause investigations using structured problem-solving methodologies including 8D, RCA, DMAIC, and 5 Why analysis. Implement and verify corrective and preventative actions to deliver sustainable quality improvements. Perform product inspections and measurement activities to validate conformity against drawings and specifications. Quality Systems & Process Control: Develop, implement, and maintain process controls including PFMEA, Control Plans, SPC, and MSA activities. Support and lead Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) activities for new products and engineering changes. Support New Product Introduction (NPI) projects to ensure quality requirements are achieved during launch and sustained in production. Maintain compliance with ISO 9001 requirements and the company Integrated Management System. Contribute to internal audit programmes and support external audits when required. Supplier Quality & Continuous Improvement: Qualify, approve, and develop suppliers through audits, capability assessments, and risk evaluations. Manage supplier non-conformances, ensuring effective containment, investigation, and implementation of corrective actions. Conduct supplier audits and performance reviews, driving improvements in quality, delivery, and overall supplier performance. Work collaboratively with suppliers to reduce variation, scrap, rework, and cost of poor quality. Monitor supplier quality metrics including PPM and COPQ and support supplier improvement programmes. Leadership & Cross-Functional Support : Collaborate with Operations, Engineering, R&D, and Supply Chain teams to improve product and process quality. Support customer-specific quality requirements and provide technical guidance to internal teams and suppliers. Provide regular reporting on quality performance, risks, and improvement initiatives. Travel within the UK as required to support supplier and business quality activities. Qualifications & Requirements – Quality Engineer: Extensive experience within a lean manufacturing environment, including supplier quality management. HNC or equivalent qualification in Engineering. Strong understanding of ISO 9001 and ideally IATF 16949 quality management systems. Experience managing PPAP processes and supplier approval activities. Proven experience using structured problem-solving tools such as 8D, 5 Why, RCA, and DMAIC. Strong technical understanding of engineering drawings, geometric tolerancing, and measurement techniques. Experience operating Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMM). Qualified Lead Auditor with experience conducting supplier, process, and product audits. Proficient with Microsoft Office applications including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint. Able to work independently, prioritise workload effectively, and influence stakeholders at all levels.
