We are seeking an experienced Quality Engineer to join the CoreMod Programme, a major transformation initiative focused on modernising HMRC's tax administration systems. You will work within agile Scrum teams of 4-8 engineers, delivering high-quality solutions through two-week sprint cycles across a diverse and modern technology landscape.

Key Responsibilities
Design, build and implement automated testing solutions from the ground up. Develop and execute test strategies using TDD, BDD and risk-based testing approaches. Champion shift-left testing practices and support CI/CD pipeline integration. Coach and mentor development teams on Quality Engineering best practices. Perform testing across all levels, including: Unit Testing System Testing Integration Testing Non-Functional Testing Analyse business requirements and translate them into effective test approaches. Create, manage and maintain test data and testing artefacts. Collaborate closely with developers through pair programming and agile delivery practices. Support defect analysis, root cause investigation and quality improvement initiatives.
Essential Technical Capabilities
Candidates must be able to demonstrate:
Ability to read, understand and interpret Java unit tests (e.g. JUnit) written by developers to support test analysis and defect investigation. Experience designing and developing automated end-to-end and system tests using Playwright with Java. Strong capability in developing and maintaining automated test frameworks and scripts in Java across: UI Testing API Testing System-Level TestingRequired Skills & Experience
Proven experience in Quality Engineering and software testing. Strong understanding of automated testing principles and frameworks. Experience working with CI/CD pipelines. Proficiency with Git and GitLab. Knowledge of Agile and Scrum delivery methodologies. Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills. Experience coaching and mentoring team members. Quality-focused mindset with a continuous improvement approach. Ability to work effectively within cross-functional delivery teams.
