Location: East Manchester Salary: £45,000-£50,000 DOE Full-time | Site based An established manufacturing business with operations in the South of England is expanding into the North West with the opening of a new fabrication facility in East Manchester. This is a significant investment for the business and an opportunity to join the new operation at an early stage. We are recruiting a hands-on Quality Manager who will take ownership of developing and embedding the site's Quality Management System, establishing robust operational quality controls and supporting the facility through ISO 9001 accreditation.
The Opportunity
This role is about building quality into a new manufacturing operation, rather than simply maintaining an established system. Working closely with the Operations Manager and the wider business, you will take the lead on developing practical quality processes that work on the shop floor as well as meeting ISO and customer requirements. You'll establish how quality is checked throughout production, what needs to be recorded and signed off, how traceability is maintained and how non-conformances are investigated and resolved. Just as importantly, you'll be visible within the operation. You'll regularly audit and spot-check what's happening in practice, work directly with production teams and challenge standards where necessary. As the facility develops, there will also be an opportunity to contribute to improving and aligning quality standards across the wider business.
Key Responsibilities
Develop, implement and continually improve the site's Quality Management System. Support and lead the operation through achieving and maintaining ISO 9001 accreditation. Establish practical quality checks and inspection points throughout the production process. Define responsibilities for quality checks, records and sign-off. Carry out internal audits and regular shop-floor quality checks. Manage non-conformances, root-cause investigations and corrective actions through to closure. Identify recurring quality issues and work with Operations to prevent them happening again. Ensure appropriate inspection, measurement and traceability records are maintained. Coordinate external ISO and customer quality audits. Work directly with production teams to embed quality standards into everyday working practices. Support continuous improvement as the new operation grows.
About You
You'll already have strong quality experience gained within fabrication, engineering, manufacturing or another hands-on production environment. We're particularly interested in people who can demonstrate what they have personally done with a QMS, rather than simply having worked within an ISO-accredited company. Ideally, you'll bring:
Strong practical knowledge of ISO 9001 and Quality Management Systems. Experience developing, implementing or significantly improving a QMS. Experience supporting or leading a business through ISO 9001 accreditation. Hands-on manufacturing or engineering quality experience. Experience establishing operational inspection and quality-control processes. Strong NCR, root-cause analysis and corrective-action experience. Understanding of tolerances, measuring equipment and product traceability. Confidence working directly with production teams and operational managers. A practical approach - able to introduce robust standards without unnecessary bureaucracy. Experience of welding or fabrication quality requirements, including ISO 3834, would be advantageous, as would ISO auditor training or knowledge of ISO 14001/45001.
What's On Offer
£45,000-£50,000 DOE The opportunity to join an established business at the beginning of an important new chapter in its growth, with genuine scope to shape the quality function within a brand-new North West operation. This should particularly appeal to someone who enjoys developing and improving quality systems and wants the autonomy to make an impact, rather than simply inheriting a mature QMS and maintaining the status quo. This is a confidential appointment. UK Staffing Group will provide full details of the business and exact location to suitable candidates during the initial recruitment process.
