The Opportunity

A growing contractor is looking to appoint a Quantity Surveyor to join its commercial team in Newport.

This is an excellent opportunity to join a business delivering a diverse range of refurbishment, construction and building projects across both public and private sector environments. The company has built a strong reputation for quality, craftsmanship and client service, with projects spanning commercial, education, healthcare, residential and industrial sectors.

The role offers exposure to a varied project portfolio, close interaction with senior leadership and genuine opportunities for progression as the business continues to expand. As an added bonus, the team will be relocating to a brand-new office next month, providing a modern and collaborative working environment.

Role Overview

You will be responsible for:

• Managing the commercial aspects of multiple construction and refurbishment projects


• Producing and maintaining CVRs


• Cost reporting and forecasting project performance


• Managing subcontractor procurement and tender packages


• Preparing subcontract orders and managing subcontract accounts


• Valuing and agreeing variations


• Producing applications for payment and interim valuations


• Monitoring project budgets and identifying commercial risks


• Managing change control procedures


• Producing final accounts


• Working closely with operational teams to maximise project profitability


• Supporting senior commercial staff with reporting and project reviews

About You

• Previous experience as a Quantity Surveyor or Assistant Quantity Surveyor ready to step up


• Main contractor experience preferred


• Strong understanding of CVRs, forecasting and cost control


• Experience managing subcontractor procurement


• Knowledge of variations and final accounts


• Good commercial awareness and negotiation skills


• Strong communication and relationship-building abilities


• Construction-related qualification preferred


• Proficient with Microsoft Excel and commercial reporting systems


• Ambitious and keen to progress within a growing business
