Salary £50,000 per annum

We are seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to join a fast-paced manufacturing business supporting a broad range of industries. Operating in a dynamic, customer-led environment, the company delivers tailored product solutions that meet specific operational and technical requirements.

The Role:

This is a customer-focused design position where you will work closely with the sales team to develop fully bespoke solutions from initial concept through to production. You’ll play a key role in transforming client requirements into innovative, practical designs that balance performance, cost, and manufacturability.

You will be responsible for:

• Collaborating directly with the sales team and customers to understand requirements and develop custom product designs.
• Applying creative problem-solving to deliver innovative solutions that meet both technical and commercial objectives.
• Producing detailed CAD drawings, prototypes, and technical documentation to support design approval and production processes.
• Selecting appropriate materials and design approaches, considering durability, cost-effectiveness, and manufacturability.
• Liaising with production, suppliers, and procurement to ensure design feasibility and efficient production.
• Driving continuous improvement initiatives to optimise existing designs and develop new product concepts.
• Keeping up to date with industry developments, emerging technologies, and materials

Key Skills & Experience:

• Strong background in mechanical design, product design, or a related engineering discipline.
• Proficient in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or similar).
• Creative thinker with strong problem-solving abilities and a solution-focused approach.
• Confident communicator with the ability to engage effectively with both internal teams and external customers.
• Experience in working directly with clients to develop and present design concepts.
• Good understanding of material selection, manufacturing processes, and design for manufacture principles.
• Awareness of cost analysis, sustainability factors, and production efficiency considerations.
