Role: R&L Data Controller


Location: Preston, Head Office (minimum 4 days per week in office)


Contract: 12 month Fixed Term Contract


Hours: Monday – Friday, 40 hours per week 8am – 5pm


Salary: £28,840 per annum  


 


The Role:


The R&L Data Controller is responsible for ensuring that waste management data is accurate, complete and available in a timely manner to support operational delivery, customer reporting, compliance obligations. The role provides a key link between internal teams, customers and supply chain partners, ensuring that waste documentation, system records and reporting outputs are maintained to a high standard and aligned with agreed processes, deadlines and data quality expectations.

We operate UK-wide across construction, manufacturing, retail, utilities and public sector markets, offering total waste management, WEEE recycling, and specialist hazardous waste services. 



Key Responsibilities:


Data Management and Processing



  • Collate, review and maintain accurate waste management data, including weight report data, rebate information, disposal depot details, recycling rates and compliance check records.

  • Monitor data quality by identifying, investigating and resolving discrepancies in accordance with established procedures and company standards.

  • Process and accurately record waste transfer notes (WTNs), weighbridge tickets, delivery notes and hazardous waste consignment notes, ensuring all records are complete, compliant and up to date.


Supplier and Portal Management



  • Liaise with supply chain partners to obtain missing data and supporting documentation within required timescales.

  • Utilise supplier portals to retrieve documentation, monitor job progress, follow up outstanding actions and ensure timely closure of open records.


Reporting and Customer Support



  • Prepare and complete end-of-month reports for all customers, clearing previous month data and working to the agreed deadline 10th of each month.

  • Investigate and respond to customer queries relating to missing data, discrepancies and SmartWaste error reports.


Other responsibilities



  • Provide administrative and operational support to the Purchase Ledger, Sales Ledger and Supply Chain teams as required.



About You:


To be successful in this role, you'll be highly organised, naturally inquisitive and have an exceptional eye for detail. You'll enjoy working with data, solving problems and ensuring information is accurate, complete and delivered on time.



Experience & Skills:



  • Previous experience in an administrative, data management, finance, compliance or customer service role where accuracy and attention to detail were essential.

  • Excellent attention to detail with the ability to identify discrepancies, investigate issues and maintain high levels of data accuracy.

  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise competing deadlines and manage a busy workload effectively.

  • Confident using Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, and comfortable learning new systems and customer portals.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with colleagues, customers and supply chain partners.

  • A proactive approach with the confidence to follow up outstanding information and resolve issues independently.

  • Ability to work accurately under pressure, particularly during month-end reporting periods.

  • A team player who is happy to support colleagues across Finance, Supply Chain and Operations where required.


 


Measures of Success:



  • Reduction in the number of jobs with missing, incomplete or inaccurate records.

  • Monthly customer reports completed accurately and within the agreed monthly deadline.

  • Customer queries, missing data and SmartWaste error reports investigated and resolved promptly.

  • Effective follow-up with supply chain partners, resulting in timely receipt of required documentation.

  • Consistent compliance with agreed procedures, data quality standards and customer reporting requirements.
