What it's like to work here Embracing a role at Dunham Massey means immersing oneself in the fusion of historical guardianship and the vibrant pulse of contemporary environmental stewardship. As a Grade 9 Ranger, you are not merely a custodian of the land but a vital thread woven into the fabric of a centuries-old legacy, all while nurturing the estate’s future.Set within the grandeur of a Georgian mansion and a vast deer park that spans 300 acres—part of a larger 3,000-acre estate dotted with farms and cottages—your duties are as diverse as the ecosystem you’ll protect. From ancient tree care to wildlife management, every task connects you to the over 500,000 visitors who walk these grounds each year. The Future Dunham Massey Programme charts an ambitious course over the next 15 to 20 years, aiming to enact meaningful change across the domains of People, Nature, and History.
This isn’t just employment; it’s a chance to forge a sustainable future for a place that has been a community pillar for ages. By joining our committed team, you’ll help shape a legacy where the natural world flourishes, heritage is honoured, and every visitor leaves with lasting memories. Joining the team at Dunham Massey is an invitation to engage deeply with both the natural and built environments, safeguarding a cherished part of our planet for future generations.
What you'll be doingYou’ll be helping to protect and care for habitats, wildlife, buildings and machinery. You’ll pass on your knowledge and enthusiasm to encourage others to love this area as much as you do. Whenever and wherever you come across people, you’ll take the time to talk to them and answer their questions, rather than rushing away to the next task.
You’ll make sure that the conservation work and outdoor experiences on the land in your care are of the highest standard. You’ll build relationships in the local community, proudly representing the Trust and letting people know about the work you and the team are doing.
