Job Description - Reception / Recovery Champion

Overview

Duty Worker / Recovery Champion

Be the person who makes someone feel welcome.

Walking into a drug and alcohol service can feel like a big step. The way someone is welcomed can make all the difference.

As a Duty Worker / Recovery Champion, you’ll be one of the first people someone meets when they arrive at our Liverpool Croxteth Hub. You’ll create a calm, safe and inclusive environment where people feel respected, listened to and supported without judgement.

This is a varied frontline role where no two days will be the same. You’ll combine practical recovery support, harm reduction, initial assessments and front-of-house responsibilities, helping people access the right support at the right time.

The opportunity

You’ll speak with people at different stages of their recovery journey, offering encouragement, practical guidance and conversations that build confidence and motivation.

You’ll provide brief advice on harm reduction, safer substance use and safer sex, and support people to access needle exchange and naloxone. Training will be provided, so you don’t need to know everything from day one.

You’ll encourage people to attend appointments, groups and clinics, introduce them to recovery communities, mutual aid and peer support, and connect them with other services when they need additional help.

Alongside this, you’ll help the hub run smoothly. You’ll welcome visitors, support appointment check-ins, manage the flow of people through the service and help maintain a safe, organised and welcoming environment.

Location: Croxteth Hub, Liverpool
Contract: Permanent
Hours: Full time, 37.5 hours per week. The role includes some evening and weekend working as part of a rota.

Please note: Full-time hours at Change Grow Live are 37.5 hours per week. For part-time roles, the salary and any associated payments will be pro rata based on contracted hours.

Responsibilities

What you’ll bring

You may have lived experience of recovery, experience of supporting others, or a strong interest in developing a career within health, social care or substance use services.

What matters most is your ability to connect with people and treat everyone with dignity.

You’ll bring:

  • A compassionate, empathetic and non-judgemental approach.

  • Strong communication skills and the confidence to engage with different people.

  • The ability to remain calm and professional in a busy environment.

  • An understanding of confidentiality and appropriate professional boundaries.

  • A willingness to learn, complete training and work collaboratively as part of a team.

Experience or understanding of harm reduction, naloxone, needle exchange or recovery services would be valuable, but it is not essential.

Why this role matters

You’ll help reduce stigma and remove barriers to treatment. Sometimes that will mean providing practical information. Sometimes it will mean helping someone take the next step in their recovery. Often, it will begin by simply making them feel welcome.

At Change Grow Live, our values guide everything we do:

Be open. Be compassionate. Be bold.
