Refuse Driver

3 months Contract with a Local Authority

Job Purpose

As a Refuse Driver, you will be responsible for safely operating refuse collection vehicles and supporting waste collection services across the Bromsgrove and Redditch areas. You will work as part of the Environmental Services team to ensure waste and recycling collections are carried out efficiently, safely, and to a high standard.

Key Duties/Accountabilities

• Drive refuse collection vehicles on designated collection routes.
  
  
  


• Carry out daily vehicle safety inspections and defect checks.
  
  
  


• Support refuse and recycling collection operations.
  
  
  


• Ensure collections are completed safely and efficiently.
  
  
  


• Comply with road traffic legislation and Health & Safety requirements.
  
  
  


• Complete vehicle documentation and operational records.
  
  
  


• Work collaboratively with collection crews and supervisors.
  
  
  


• Report vehicle defects, incidents, and service issues.
  
  
  


• Maintain vehicles in a clean and roadworthy condition.
  
  
  


• Deliver excellent customer service when interacting with residents and members of the public.
  
  
  


• Assist with operational duties where required to support service delivery.
  
  
  

Essential Experience Required

• Previous experience driving refuse collection vehicles or HGV vehicles.
  
  
  


• Experience within Waste Management, Environmental Services, Street Scene, or Local Authority operations.
  
  
  


• Experience carrying out vehicle safety checks and inspections.
  
  
  


• Understanding of Health & Safety requirements.
  
  
  


• Ability to work as part of a team in a physically demanding environment.
  
  
  


• Good communication and customer service skills.
  
  
  


• Experience working outdoors in all weather conditions.
  
  
  

Essential Qualifications Required

• Valid HGV Licence.
  
  
  


• Driver CPC Qualification Card.
  
  
  


• Full UK Driving Licence.
  
  
  


• Right to Work in the UK.
  
  
  

Additional Information to Note

• Working hours: 37 hours per week.
  
  
  


• 4 days per week.
  
  
  


• Arrival time: 05:45.
  
  
  


• Shift start: 06:00.
