Regional Grounds Maintenance Operator

Our client:

United Utilities is the UK's largest listed water company and manages the regulated water and wastewater systems in the Northwest of England. They are committed to providing high-quality water and sewage services to over seven million people and businesses in the region.

The role:

You will deliver a variety of site maintenance and recovery activities on both operational and non-operational land
including grounds maintenance, vegetation management, soft landscaping, arboriculture works, contractor
management and other minor building maintenance in line with the maintenance plan for each site. To ensure the
site standards are upheld on our Water and Wastewater Treatment works and other land owned by UU including
non-asset and asset areas for the quality, performance and safety standards of the company.

The role requires you to have a full driving licence to allow you to travel to and from the required grounds.

What will you do?

• Maintain outdoor areas - This includes gardening, trimming plants, general landscaping, and occasional building maintenance at different sites.
• Help clean and restore sites - Tasks may include removing overgrown plants or working on floating platforms. Some jobs may need special training.
• Use and check equipment - Operate and inspect various tools and machines like mowers, trailers, tractors, large machinery, and handheld tools. Training will be provided for new equipment.
• Keep records - Log completed work using the company’s system.
• Do small repairs - Fix things like paving stones or fences, depending on your training and skills.
• Plan your day - Work with your Team Leader to organize tasks and make sure materials are stocked.
• Support new team members - Help train people from youth programs or employment agencies.
• Follow safety rules - Always stick to health and safety guidelines and company policies.
• Suggest improvements - Point out ways to improve site conditions or suggest winter tasks during visits.
• Communicate with site staff - Keep in touch with people working at the sites you visit.
• Handle pesticides - Apply and manage weed control products, including for invasive plants.
• Help plan new projects - Support the Team Leader in developing and delivering new work on time and within budget.
• Work with other teams - Coordinate with other departments to make sure projects run smoothly.
• Take responsibility when needed - Lead smaller tasks and keep communication flowing between managers and team members.

What will you have?

• Skills in outdoor work such as grounds maintenance, managing vegetation, soft landscaping, and general building upkeep.
• Confident using various tools and machines like lawn mowers (push and ride-on), strimmers, blowers, pole saws, hedge cutters, tractors, and robotic equipment.
• Work Planning: Able to organize and carry out both planned and unplanned tasks across different sites.
• Good at working with and building relationships with both colleagues and external partners.
• Risk Awareness: Can assess risks on the spot and take appropriate action.
• Customer Service: Committed to providing excellent service to customers.
• Driving License: Hold a full, clean driving license

Nice to have:

• City & Guilds Level 2 in Safe Handling and Application of Pesticides (formerly PA1)
• City & Guilds Level 2 in Safe Use of Pedestrian Hand-Held Pesticide Equipment (formerly PA6/PA6INJ/PA6W)
