You will be a practical engineer with a strong interest in reliability, testing and failure analysis. You enjoy understanding how and why electronic components fail, are comfortable working with data and technical documentation, and are motivated by improving product performance in challenging operating environments.
The successful candidate will play a key role in investigating reliability challenges, qualifying electronic components and materials, and supporting continuous improvement across product design and manufacturing processes.
Key Responsibilities
Track, review and investigate product and component reliability issues. Analyse reliability failures and provide recommendations for corrective action and improvement. Collaborate with Engineering, Production and Quality teams to resolve internal and external reliability concerns. Conduct critical component reviews to identify obsolescence, supply chain and lead-time risks. Develop and implement electronic component qualification plans to support design and manufacturing requirements. Maintain accurate and organised documentation relating to component testing, qualification activities and reliability investigations. Develop an understanding of high-reliability design and manufacturing techniques. Assess electronic component and PCB manufacturing methods, failure mechanisms and analysis techniques to maximise product lifetime. Support PCB manufacturing and reliability improvement programmes through testing of electronics and materials. Liaise with external suppliers and test partners to support qualification and reliability activities.
Required Skills & Experience
Degree qualified in Electronic Engineering or a related discipline. Previous experience in electronic design, testing, validation, qualification or reliability engineering. Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, particularly for technical reporting. Ability to work independently and take ownership of reliability-related activities. Proficient with standard computer applications and technical documentation.
Desirable Skills & Experience
Knowledge of electronic component packaging and qualification testing. Experience with accelerated life testing, environmental testing or reliability analysis techniques. Understanding of electronic component failure mechanisms and root cause investigations. Experience working with high-temperature or harsh-environment electronics. Knowledge of PCB manufacturing processes and reliability considerations. Experience with database development, maintenance or data analysis. Background within aerospace, defence, automotive or other highly regulated industries. Willingness to travel occasionally when required.
