Role Summary

• Responsibilities: This opportunity allows you to develop and contribute to a global health-related project of your choice, addressing a need relevant to your community, with the advice of a mentor from Costello Medical with expertise in your project type. We will share our skills and knowledge in evidence-based medicine, research design, and medical communication to support you in delivering your project to its fullest impact

• Role Type: Temporary assignment of mentor from Costello Medical with specific technical expertise relevant to your project type for up to 12 months

• Start Date: Throughout 2026

An Opportunity for affiliates from Mahidol Oxford Tropical Medicine Research Unit (MORU) and Cambridge Global Health Partnerships (CGHP) from Low-or Middle-Income Countries

Our Global Health Research Programme offers MORU and CGHP affiliates from low- or middle-income countries the exclusive opportunity to gain skills in evidence-based medicine, with the support of Costello Medical’s expertise and knowledge, working on a healthcare problem which is relevant to their community.

You will be matched with a Costello Medical expert relevant to your project and support needs, who will provide you with remote support and guidance on an ad-hoc basis. While this is estimated to be no more than 1 hour of support per week for the duration of your research project, we are open to discuss this further on a case-by-case basis as part of your application.

About This Programme

This unique programme offers you the exclusive opportunity for one-to-one guidance as you design and conduct a global health-related project relevant to your community. We welcome project proposals relating to any of our service offerings, including:

• Literature and evidence reviews
• Health economics and economic evaluations
• Real-world evidence research
• Medical communications and scientific publications
• Data analysis and interpretation
• Stakeholder engagement and research dissemination
• Public health research and healthcare policy evaluation

Examples of suitable projects could include:

• An assessment of the cost-effectiveness of a local disease prevention or vaccination programme
• A real-world evidence study investigating factors affecting treatment adherence for a chronic condition
• Development of an evidence-based educational resource or medical communication initiative to improve community health awareness

We will share our skills and knowledge in evidence-based medicine, research design, and medical communication.

The start dates and duration for this programme is flexible, and we welcome discussions for your desired support timelines in the application questions.

This opportunity is fully remote and you will not be an employee of Costello Medical or have access to the Costello Medical offices.

The Successful Candidate Should:

• Be a national of, and currently based in, a low- or middle-income country (not the UK), working or studying in a health-related profession. This could include health practitioners, health-related charity or NGO workers, health researchers or other health professionals
• Be a current affiliate of MORU or CGHP (please specify in your application)
• Have an idea for a global health-related project, including a well-considered project approach and plan to implement project findings back into local communities. This can be a current or new project. Your project should require expertise that would be meaningfully enhanced through this opportunity with the support of Costello Medical and that may not be readily available within your current institution or network.
• Be educated in a health- or science-related subject
• Be fluent in written and spoken English and have good numeracy skills
• Be able to prioritise own tasks and workload, and have a good understanding of how to drive forward their project independently
• Have access to their own laptop and internet

It should be noted that the programme is not intended as a means to gain experience at a UK company or with a view to gaining full-time employment at Costello Medical. The primary intention of the programme is to provide you with the skills and guidance to complete your project, enhancing its impact and allowing you to make meaningful change in your community following completion.

You will receive personalised support from a Costello Medical expert, gain practical experience in evidence-based medicine and global health research, develop skills in research design and medical communication, and receive tailored support to maximise the impact of a healthcare project relevant to your community.

You should also include a proposal of the specific project that you would like to work on during your programme and answer some questions about your project using our online application form.

The Application Process

Applications for the Global Health Research Programme will close once an adequate number of opportunity positions have been filled. Therefore, we encourage you to submit your application as soon as possible.

After submitting your application, it will be reviewed by members of the Global Health team. If successful, you will then be invited to an informal call to discuss your project and support needs further. We will discuss with you via email or multiple calls to tailor the support required for your research project, to ensure that the support will be fulfilling and match your needs.

Please note that this programme is for ad-hoc support only, and so we may not be able to proceed if your application process shows that you require a significant amount of support.
