Job Description - Head of Business Development - Engineering Services

The Opportunity:
Nigel Wright Group is delighted to have been appointed to support a private equity backed engineering service provider, with the recruitment of a Head of Business Development North, as it invests for growth. The customer sectors include defence & aerospace, semiconductors, cleantech, biotech, medtech and broader hightech. Services include CNC machining, metal fabrication, and electrical / mechanical assembly. The role will be remote based, with responsibility for a small team.

Role Profile:

Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer.
Line managing a small business development team.
Designing and implementing the business development strategy for the Midlands, North of England, Scotland and Northern Ireland.
Mapping and targeting sector specific prospective customers.
Holding personal accountability for end to end sale cycle activities with prospective customers.
Key focus on developing new business in defence and aerospace.
Technical engagement with customers, including reading of engineering drawings and advising accordingly on solutions and services that can be offered.
Closing sales and revenue generating.
Coaching and developing the team of two, to operate in a similar manner.
The position will be remote / home / market based, with occasional trips to head office in the South East.

Person Specification:

A track record in new business development within the engineering sector.
A technical background with the ability to read drawings and engage with engineering contacts within customer organisations.
The ability to identify opportunities from an engineering shop floor environment.
Comfortable with extensive customer facing travel around the Midlands, the North, Scotland and Northern Ireland.
Comfortable with periodic travel to the company HQ in the South East.
